Beat the Humbug 2020: A Holiday Olé Event

Did you know that for 24 years, the Junior League of San Antonio, Inc. (JLSA) has hosted the Holiday Olé Market? It has also been one of the League’s biggest fundraisers during that time. The money JLSA raises through our fundraising events supports our community partners and numerous other non-profits and organizations who depend on our fundraising efforts—no pressure, right?

The Holiday Olé Market has been a long-standing tradition for JLSA. We have committee members that used to attend as a child with their moms. I myself worked alongside a boutique vendor at this amazing event when I was in high school. Which is why, when I joined JLSA (6 years ago), I KNEW that Holiday Olé was the only place for me!

Holiday Olé Market and JLSA are like Taylor Swift and country music—pure magic. Just as Taylor Swift has evolved and reinvented herself, so must Holiday Olé Market. This year, we have taken our Holiday Olé Market and added a dash of social distancing with a pinch of virtual and bam, Beat the Humbug 2020: A Holiday Olé Event was born!

We, as a committee, have found it challenging to come up with a new and inventive way to keep true to our Holiday Olé Market roots while being cautious as COVID-19 has been affecting our community. This year, we are excited to share that we have a virtual, three-day event that is sure to spread holiday cheer!

One of the main reasons I joined the Holiday Olé Market Committee, and have stayed on the fundraising side of JLSA for so long, is the committee size⎼⎼12 amazing women! I love being with a larger committee; it makes it that much easier to make friends. I have met some of my best friends through volunteering with JLSA.

Okay, back to the event! Beat the Humbug will consist of two major parties. Let me start off by warning you, both parties are fabulous and have limited space, so hurry and GET YOUR TICKETS!

  • We kick off our weekend on Friday, November 6th at 7:30 pm with our Rockin’ Around the Christmas Trivia event. The cost of the event is $35 and the best part is it’s an ALL HOLIDAY MOVIE trivia theme! There is also a fun swag bag with snacks provided with the ticket.
  • You can continue the holly jolly spirit with a Cookies with Santa event on Saturday, November 7th from 1-3 pm. This event is perfect if you have little ones, or enjoy cookies/love Santa. The event costs $45 and you will receive a kit of cookies with frosting and digital recipe booklet. The class will be led by Baked Goodness over Zoom.
