COVID-19 UPDATE: Changes to Upcoming Events

SAN ANTONIO March 27, 2020 – Over the past few weeks, the Junior League of San Antonio (JLSA) has closely monitored news of COVID-19 and communications from the City of San Antonio and Bexar County health officials in order to ensure the health and safety of all attendees at any upcoming event. These decisions were not made lightly but in an abundance of caution for our members, staff, supporters and community members we serve. At this time the JLSA office is functioning remotely during regular business hours, until April 9, 2020.

In accordance with the recent mandate by San Antonio and Bexar County health officials, partners, sponsors and attendees, JLSA has decided to CANCEL the 2020 Viva SA Race scheduled for Saturday, April 4, 2020, at Hemisfair. As a result of the cancellation, registered participants are able to transfer their registration to the 2021 Viva SA Race scheduled for March 27, 2021. Registered participants may also choose to donate their registration fee to the Junior League of San Antonio. Please email vpfund@jlsa.org with your chosen option.

The JLSA race committee worked diligently to bring a great, fun and exciting race for all participants but health and safety always comes first. We are encouraging all attendees to instead participate remotely and continue to stay healthy and fit even while we maintain social distancing.

Another event slated to be held, FAME (Funding Arts and Music Education) scheduled for April 5, 2020, at Trinity University, is also CANCELED. While we are saddened we won’t be hosting this showcase of incredible talent of our area high school students, we recognize that school closures will prevent teams and their instructors from preparing for their performances.

“Even though we will not have upcoming events, we encourage our supporters to continue to foster JLSA’s mission by donating through our website and supporting our centennial campaign Paving New Paths, focused on improving childrens’ mental wellness.” says Yvonne Addison, President of the Junior League of San Antonio. “We also encourage everyone to take the necessary steps to protect themselves by being calm, wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds, socially distance yourself from others and take additional precautions recommended by city leadership and health professionals.”

The JLSA is also temporarily suspending volunteer support to protect the health and safety of our volunteers, partners and community. Every year, JLSA members actively volunteer with various San Antonio community partners and organizations to restore our city parks, playscapes and programs that support children and those vulnerable in our communities. We look forward to the future when we can once again provide volunteer support in addressing our communities’ needs.

In addition, we will be extending the Paving New Paths Trailblazer fundraiser deadline to May 31st, 2020. We advise that our Trailblazers cancel in-person functions and we encourage the JLSA Trailblazers to share via social media the benefits of supporting the JLSA Centennial Campaign and Signature Project. JLSA’s efforts are only made possible by the generosity of our community through their time, energy, monetary support and much more. Follow us as JLSA shares tips for remaining safe, healthy and active! @JuniorLeagueSA. Learn more about the Junior League of San Antonio by visiting jlsa.org.
